Negative Effects of Hard Water

Negative Effects of Hard Water

If you’re like most people, when it comes to your home’s water, you’re probably most concerned with whether the water is safe and healthy to drink or not. While that’s definitely something to prioritize, you should also worry about whether your water is hard or soft. If you have hard water running through your pipes, you could suffer from some pretty negative effects.

Negative Effects of Hard Water

Scratchy Towels

Don’t you love the feeling of stepping out of the shower and wrapping yourself is a soft, fluffy towel? Well, you can say “goodbye” to that feeling if you have hard water. Hard water doesn’t work well with detergents, leaving your towels feeling dry and scratchy.

Dull-Colored Clothing

Not only does hard water leave your laundry scratchy, but it can cause the colors to fade from your favorite clothing. That royal blue sweatshirt you’ve cherished since college? It’ll probably be baby blue before you know it.

Dry Skin and Hair

Since hard water can’t fully wash away soap, your shampoo and face wash won’t fully rinse away during your shower. When that residue stays on your hair and skin, it can dry them both out, and who wants that?

Stained Plumbing Fixtures

The minerals in hard water can leave white calcium deposits on your faucets, drains, shower heads, and toilet bowls. While some of this residue is easily removed for a short time, your plumbing fixtures will keep getting stained as long as you have hard water.

More Plumbing Repairs

All those minerals can build up inside your pipes and appliances and leave you with clogs, low water pressure, and more — all of which result in more frequent plumbing repairs and more money out of your pocket.
